Vegan, Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Omnivore, Carnivore or Balanced eater?
I have been all of the above at some point in my adulthood. Although, my kids say that my diet consists mainly of things that look like I’m grazing in the front yard. When I was a little girl my maternal grandmother drove it into my head that all meals should have something green on the plate. She was convinced that this was the key to an efficient digestive system. So every meal I prepare has a green vegetable either in it or as a side. When I started practicing yoga it seemed like everyone around me was vegetarian. I asked why as I daydreamed on my mat of filet mignon. Moral reasons or reducing carbon footprint seemed to be popular but the reason that I chose to give up meat was health. Also, I can eat MORE!!!! And I love food! If you think about it there are more calories in one serving of red meat or pork than a whole platter of veggies. I LOVE wine and I would much prefer to spend my excess daily calories on a good glass/bottle of Pinot Noir. At the time that I gave up meat, I was the mother of 5 teenaged boys and their reaction was nothing short of a mutiny. Not to worry I continued to cook meat for those I love and not impose my choices on them. I still cook meat when they return but still choose not to eat, well maybe a bite of prime rib at Christmas. There are no meat police for vegetarians! Most of the time I cook seafood and meatless dishes for my husband and me. I have also started eating organic chicken on occasion only because seafood is getting expensive, and it gives me another option when we go out.
On this website I offer only my best recipes and inspiration with a little bit of humor and other surprises along the way.
