Great Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

Fresh ginger and sesame oil stand out for this stellar teriyaki sauce that you will use like ketchup.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger I keep mine cut unpeeled in 2 inch pieces in the freezer and grate it frozen right into the pan.
  • 2 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup white wine or mirin
  • 1 1/2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 cup warm water to mix with corn starch to make a slurry
  • 1 tbsp sambal olek add more if you like it hot!

Instructions
 

  • Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a slow boil. Stir occasionally. Reduce heat and let bubble for another 15-20 minutes or until thickened. It should stick to the back of a spoon. If it doesn’t get as thick as desired add more of the corn starch slurry, if it gets too thick add more water. Use as a marinade or sauce for grilling.
